Incident of the White House, Va.

On the occupation of the White House, Va., by the soldiers of General McClellan, a small piece of paper, bearing the following inscription, was found pinned on the casing of an inner door:—

"Northern soldiers, who profess to reverence Washington, forbear to desecrate the house of his first married life, the property of his wife, now owned by her descendants.
      "A granddaughter of Mrs. Washington."

Beneath the inscription was written the following :

"LADY: A Northern officer has protected your property in the sight of the enemy, and at the request of your overseer."
